CSULA Slips Past BU

Biola nearly upset No.1 Cal State LA in a thrilling 4-3 match at University Stadium.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--- The Biola University men's soccer team put up a fight against the United Soccer Coaches Association's No. 1 team in the nation, Cal State LA, at University Stadium Wednesday night.

Undefeated Cal State LA (4-0) just slipped past Biola (0-3-1) in a thrilling 4-3 match.

CSULA started off strong with two goals in the 22nd and 28th minutes.

Biola, looking at a 2-0 deficit, fought back and ended up scoring the next three goals in the first half. BU's first goal was put back just a couple minutes after the Golden Eagles' second goal, thanks to Matteo Napoletano and Kristian Colaci. Napoletano set up Colaci with a good pass that he was able to get behind and drive into CSULA's net, bridging the gap 2-1.

Colaci would find the net AGAIN, just under six minutes later, and tie the game up (2-2). This time with an assist from Samuel Skartnes

Biola's third goal was a solo shot from Aidan Hill toward the post. Hill was able to split the defense and get past the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper to one up CSULA, 3-2.

The second half proved favorable to the home team, allowing them to recuperate and score the next two goals (4-3). The Golden Eagles found their way into the Eagles' net in the 56th and 68th minutes and then successfully defended the remainder of Biola's attempts.

Cal State LA's goalie Alvaro Unanua made two saves in the final minutes (and five total) to help his team hold down their win. Biola's JD Gunn made two saves in the match, both in the final frame.

The Eagles return to Al Barbour Field to play their next match against Cal State San Bernardino at 7 p.m.
