Eagles Return to the Pool

The Biola swimming and diving squads jumped back into competition on Friday at Pomona-Pitzer.

CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Biola swimming and diving rang in the new year on Friday, competing in a dual meet at Pomona-Pitzer.  The host squad pulled off the victory, taking down the Eagles 203-87 on the women's side and 205-85 on the men's side.


The diving slate opened the day at Haldeman Pool, featuring Eliana Cote for Biola. The sophomore put together a final score of 225.0 and took second place.

The Friday meet featured four event wins from the women's squad. Liza Parahnevich, Grace Kling, Morgan Kampfer and Sofia Chavez-Varela combined to net first place in the 400 medley relay. The group posted a time of 4:03.93, taking the win by a margin of nearly two seconds.

Chavez-Varela showcased her kick in the 200 fly for an event victory. The young talent was the fastest in the final split to take control and land in the top spot. A time of 2:13.42 edged second place by .01 seconds.

BU also found success in the 50 free and 200 back, as Kasidee Pascoe and Liza Parahnevich won those events, respectively. Pascoe took first in the 50 free with a time of 25.23 and Parahnevich won in the 200 back, logging a time of 2:10.40.

The Biola men collected a pair of top-three finishes in the 1000 and 200 free, 200 back and 100 individual medley. Donatus Onu and Westin Dawe were stellar in the long distance 1000 free, while  Tanner Smith and Jacob Haaksma cruised in for strong placements in the 200 free.

Freshman Ryan Monrean notched second place in the 100 individual medley at 56.76. A trio of Eagles followed, including Clayton Owens, Colin Snyder and Gavin Kelley. 

In the 10th event of the afternoon, Kolya Vos swam the 50 back in 28.00 seconds. The speedy time was good for second place.

Biola will be back in action on Saturday, as they faceoff against Occidental with events beginning at 11:00 am.
