The WWPA handed out the player of the week award on Wednesday to Rachel Spadt.

January 26, 2022

OAKLAND, Calif. --- Well that did not take long. Following the first two contests of the women's water polo program, the team grabbed a weekly honor given out by the Western Water Polo Association. Rachel Spadt impressed in the pair of games on Sunday to earn the WWPA Player of the Week award.

"Rachel is a huge part of our team leadership this year as a team captain," said head coach Sarah Orozco. "She is also a key player and someone who is humbly confident when she leads as we saw her perform in games this weekend."

The Eagles took to the pool for the first time in school history this past Sunday. The team took on Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne in Long Beach last week to kick off their inaugural season. In game number two, BU notched its first win with a 16-7 triumph over La Verne.

Spadt shined in the victory, leading the team with six goals. Her impact was felt throughout the game with three goals coming in each half. The sophomore also added an assist and a steal in the win.

"She is an outstanding and exemplary player to our team physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally," added Orozco. "She is relentless with her skills and abilities and our team is fueled and highly encouraged by Rachel.

Through the two games, Spadt tallied seven goals, two assists and three steals.

Orozco is excited to have a young talent make an impact this fast, "She has proudly become a cornerstone to this new culture we are creating and refining at Biola each day. We are excited to see our team have continued success throughout the season and we look forward to working hard and pushing forward together each day."

Biola will return to action in its first home game on Friday at 1:00 pm against UC Santa Barbara.
