​​LA MIRADA --- ​​On Monday, January 10, the PacWest Conference named Biola women's basketball freshman Amiah Simmons the PacWest Player of the week. Biola (8-4, 4-2 PacWest) has had great success in Hawaii being 2-0 on the road, while sitting in third overall in the conference. 

The 5-9 guard from Osawatomie, Kansas scored the highest amount of points last week in all of the PacWest with a total of 37 points. She played a huge role in great wins against both Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific. 

"After the Christmas break the team and Amiah returned with great focus and unity. I think their hard work and commitment to each other really showed in our games in Hawaii," said head coach Alan Nakamura.  

With the start of the new year, the freshman made her mark on the Island with 14 field goals, eight free throws, one three-pointer and one assist, while playing a total of 53 minutes. 

With two tough wins last week and a great team effort, redshirt sophomore Stephanie Lee also helped Biola make history, tallying 21 points in the win over HPU. "The games were a grind but we stuck together. We got big stops at the end, and Amiah and the team moved the ball to find great shots when we really needed them," mentioned Nakamura. 

As a true freshman she is ranked fifth in the conference in scoring (211 points) , seventh in free throw percentage of (.772),  and second (.510) in field-goal percentage. The young star secured her 11th outing with at least 10 points this season through only 12 games this season. 

Biola is back in action on Saturday, January 15 against Point Loma Sea Lions (8-6, 3-4 PacWest) at 2:00 pm at the Golden Gymnasium.  For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
