LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola Men's Water Polo team achieved success in their first win against Westcliff on Wednesday before suffering a 25-4 loss to No. 9 UC San Diego at home on Thursday.
Although Biola suffered the loss, Luke Franklin and
Kenny Wulf each had two goals for the Eagles. Offensively,
Nolan Rapp and
Jonas Huckabay connected with teammates to collect two and one assists, respectively.
Franklin continues to be a bright spot for the program with his work out of center. The freshman was perfect from the field finding the back of the cage on both of his shot attempts to regain the team lead in goals scored. Wulf was nearly perfect as he converted two of three shot attempts. Those two combined to score Biola's four goals against the 18-time WWPA Champion Tritons.
In the cage for UCSD, the duo of Bennett Kienast and Alexander Nemeth combined to stop 16 of 20 shot attempts, holding the Eagles to only four goals on the day.
Mitchell Carpenter, Biola's goalkeeper, collected seven saves to up his season total to 64 saves as he inches closer to the 100-save mark. Although Carpenter's double digit save-streak ended today as he played just three of the four quarters, the freshman continues to compete against some of the top-ranked teams in the nation.
Biola heads up north to take on No. 14 Santa Clara (4-2) and Fresno Pacific (1-6) for a pair of Western Water Polo Association tilts, starting September 24. For game times and live stream information check athletics.biola.edu.
