LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Former Biola Baseball pitcher
Kenny Carrillo, has signed a professional contract with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB).
The LMB is a professional baseball league based in Mexico, it is the oldest active professional league in the country. The league has 18 different teams divided into a north and south division. Â
While the league operates independently from Major League Baseball, the competition level is equivalent to that of the Triple-A level in Minor League Baseball (MiLB).Â
For Carrillo, the opportunity to play baseball at the next level and continue chasing his dream of playing in the MLB is a dream come true.
"I'm excited! I'm grateful I trusted the process, trusted the work I put in, and I'm excited for what the future may hold," said Carrillo.
Carrillo is familiar with the LMB and has been a Generales de Durango fan for quite some time as he has family living in the area that he often visits. "It's really cool that I'll be playing against them now and that I'll have some friends and family in the stands," said Carrillo.Â
Kenny started his baseball career at Montebello High School before playing two seasons at Golden West College and playing his final two collegiate seasons at Biola. As an Eagle, Carrillo threw a complete game against Concordia while allowing just one unearned run on April 27, 2019. He would go on to toss four quality starts during the 2019 season.Â
In parts of three seasons, Carrillo pitched to a 4.19 ERA in 23 appearances and 11 starts. In 77.1 innings, Carrillo struck out 57 and allowed 36 earned runs. Â
Head Coach Jeff Calhoon is very proud of what Carrillo has and will continue to accomplish. "This opportunity for Kenny is something that makes me so proud of where he comes from and where he is going," said Calhoon. "Kenny has worked incredibly hard and has overcome adversity to get to this point and he is going to make an immediate impact for the Tigres on and off the field."
The LMB will get its season started in March as the league's timeline aligns with the MLB's spring training schedule.
