EDDIES 2021 Breakout Performance of the Year

EDDIES 2021: Madison Beebe Named Breakout Performance of the Year Winner

Beebe named Breakout Performance of the Year, the first winner in Biola Athletics history.

July 14, 2021

LA MIRADA, Calif. ---  For the second straight year, Biola Athletics is taking to social media and its website to announce its annual EDDIES awards. Since we were unable to announce our finalists and celebrate student-athletes in person with an end-of-year banquet, we will take the next two weeks to do so online and via social media to look back at the most memorable performances of Spring 2021.

The process continues today as we announce the winner of the inaugural 2021 Breakout Performance of the Year award. To be eligible for the breakout performance of the year award, a student-athlete must have competed in at least one season at Biola before 2021 and competed in the 2021 season. This award is meant to honor the Eagle with the greatest development from their last season.

The 2021 winner of the Biola Breakout Performance of the Year award is Madison Beebe from Biola Volleyball. Beebe is the first winner in this category.

Beebe capitalized on the shortened season as she drastically improved from her 2019 freshman campaign. The outside hitter played in 27 sets for Head Coach Aaron Seltzer, recording 54 kills, eight blocks and 11 digs.

"Mads took full advantage of the shortened season overcoming some early setbacks to finish playing her best volleyball as an Eagle," commented Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "She was consistently a go-to for us on the court and a woman of the highest integrity off the court."

Beebe tallied 2.00 kills per set in the 2021 season, an improvement from her 1.47 kills per set in 2019 while scoring a total of 58 points for the Eagles. She was third in kills on the team with 54 in 167 attempts.

The Mission Viejo, California native set a new career-high with 13 kills and 13.5 points as she played a critical role in the 3-2 match victory at Concordia. The big win helped ignite a six-game win streak for Biola volleyball as they played their way to a PacWest SoCal Pod title.

Beebe recorded double-digit kills in three matches, twice against Concordia with 13 and 10 (3/24/2021 & 4/14/2021) and 11 against Point Loma (4/7/2021).

"Mads has the respect of her teammates for her commitment to this family and the hard work and dedication she puts in every day," said Seltzer. "Watching her grow in confidence and grow in Christ is fun to watch."
