LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Baseball Head Coach
Jeff Calhoon will join a special Team USA Task Force to help to identify and select future Team USA national team players. Calhoon will head to Peoria, Arizona June 21-29 and will be serving with coaches from around the country to help identify prospective national team members from the 17-and-under age division.
Calhoon will also be a part of the 15-and-under age division for the National Team Identification Series in Cary, NC at USA Baseball National Training Center. The later event will take place in August.
"Being a part of USA baseball is always an opportunity you appreciate being considered for and an honor to be a part of. I look forward to helping in the evaluation process for the national team. It has been a goal of mine to be a part of this great organization and am looking forward to assisting in helping form a group that represents the USA."
The Team USA Task Force will be scouting players from 96 teams that are competing in this year's 17U division National Team Championships. This year's task force will play a crucial role in scouting talent to hopefully funnel through the USA Baseball system and make not only better athletes but better men through the game of baseball.Â
"The task force plays a crucial role in the National Team Championships," said Director of Baseball Operations Ben Kelley. "The ultimate goal is for us to find the best athletes to represent our country on the international stage, and our task force is out at the fields every day scouting and ensuring that we're in the best position to select the best athletes."
Calhoon has a 26-21 record following his second season at the helm of the BU baseball program. Throughout his coaching career Calhoon has had 13 MLB Draft picks and looks to add a few more to the list this July.
