Biola Bats Beat No. 6 NNU

The BU offense came out swinging against No. 6 Northwest Nazarene, giving Biola a 14-4 win in game one.

NAMPA, Idaho --- Four Eagles collected at least three hits in game one of Friday's doubleheader against No. 6 Northwest Nazarene. BU came out on top in the road matchup, winning convincingly, 14-4.

The first six BU hitters in the lineup carried the offensive load, logging all 17 hits in the contest. Johnny Sage had a career day batting leadoff with five hits in as many at bats, while picking up three doubles and an RBI.

The high scoring affair began with an impressive third inning from the Eagles. Four-straight batters reached base for the visiting squad, as RobertAnthony Cruz and Jacob Portaro nabbed RBI base hits. Portaro provided the big hit with a double down the left field line, scoring two BU runs.

Ben Smith capped off the four-run rally for BU with a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield.

The fourth inning was characterized by two extra-base hits from the top of the BU lineup. Sage reached second base with a double and Cruz extended BU's lead to 6-0 with a two-run blast over the fence.

Another two-out home run for the Eagles extended their advantage to nine runs. Ryan Gallegos took the Nighthawks pitcher deep for a three-run homer in the top of the sixth.

The seventh inning was the lone scoring frame for NNU, as the BU pitchers kept the host squad silent for eight-of-nine innings. Andrew Beauvais nabbed the start and the win, dealing 6.2 innings with four strikeouts. The redshirt sophomore maintained a shutout effort through his first six innings of work.

Kenny Carrillo and Brandon Thomas teamed up to complete the contest on the mound, offering a combined 2.1 innings. The duo did not give up a run and collected four strikeouts, as Thomas fanned the final three batters of the game.

Biola put a huge exclamation mark on game one with a five-run ninth inning effort. The team batted through the lineup and recorded two home runs and four hits.

Gallegos launched a solo long ball to start the final inning, recording his second homer of the day for a career-best. The designated hitter also posted a season-high three hits and four RBI from the cleanup spot.

Cruz and Smith each grabbed at least three hits in the contest as well, helping the Eagles boast a .395 batting average.
