Eagles Blow by No. 6 Nighthawks

Three home runs powered the BU Eagles to a 9-0 win over sixth-ranked Northwest Nazarene.

NAMPA, Idaho --- The BU baseball squad opened up a road doubleheader on Thursday with an impressive win against No. 6 Northwest Nazarene, ending the Nighthawks' 10-game winning streak. Brandon Cody put together a spectacular performance, launching a pair of homers to lead the Eagles to a 9-0  game one victory.

Cody went three-for-five in the contest, adding two solo home runs for two RBI and two runs scored.  The two long balls pushed his season total to six in 2021, setting a new career-high for the senior.

On the mound, Larson Kindreich carried the torch with seven scoreless innings. The junior picked up his fourth win of the season, while fanning 11 batters. The surplus of strikeouts marked the third double-digit strikeout outing of the season for Kindreich.

Jacob Portaro got things going early for the Eagles, lacing a two-RBI single to center field to give BU a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The runs continued to flow, as Biola added solo scores in the second and fourth to bolster their lead.

The visiting BU team went on another scoring surge through the final three innings, collecting a combined five runs. Portaro sparked the outburst once again, smacking a two-run shot to start the seventh frame.

The senior third baseman offered a dominant effort at the plate, going a perfect two-for-two with four RBI.

Jared Kapturasky capped off the game for BU, tossing the final six outs in a relief effort. The righty refused to allow a hit or a walk on the way to a team shutout performance and a 9-0 rout for Biola.

The game one win marked the eighth victory for Biola through its last 11 contests. Game two of the midweek doubleheader is underway in Nampa, Idaho.
