Long Haul Loss

Biola drops the 6-4 contest to Concordia after a nine-day delay.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola was unable to bounce back and rally in the 6-4 loss to Concordia after a nine-day delay as the game was originally suspended on April 24 due to lighting.

Gilbert Lopez got the start for Biola, his first of the season. Lopez blanked Concordia in the first inning and allowed only two runs over four innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Concordia opened the scoring by tagging Lopez for a solo shot with one out in the top of the second inning. Biola responded with a solo run of its own in the bottom of the third to even the score 1-1.

Lopez allowed his second run of the contest in the top of the fourth after issuing a four pitch walk to Quartararo who would come around to score.

Unlike the 9-7 slugfest from game one, game two of the scheduled double header was a low scoring affair.

Biola's bullpen held Concordia scoreless from the fifth through seventh innings. Down 2-1, Biola fought back to tie the score 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The scheduled seven-inning contest continued through the eighth and was suspended due to darkness and no lights available at Eagles Diamond.

Play resumed nine days later with Jared Kapturasky returning to the bump. Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth inning.

After retiring the lead off batter via the strikeout, Kapturasky issued a walk to Quartararo. With a runner on first, a two-run homer handed Concordia the 4-2 lead and ended the day for Kapturasky.

Kapturasky pitched four and a third innings, surrendered two runs and struck out five.

Biola was sure to pick up their pitcher as the Eagles responded with two runs of their own to  tie the game 4-4 in the bottom of the tenth.

Connor Kostecka led off the inning with a single up the middle. After issuing multiple intentional walks to RobertAnthony Cruz early on in the series, Concordia elected to let Cruz swing the bat, a decision they would later regret.

Cruz stepped to the plate with one on and one out. After taking the first pitch for a ball, Cruz unloaded on the second pitch he saw, driving a no-doubt homer to straight away centerfield.

After failing to score in the eleventh inning, Concordia tagged Tyler Mead for two runs to take the 6-4 lead. The baseball magic ran out for Biola as the Eagles were unable to respond and took the loss.

The loss drops Biola to 12-17 overall and 10-14 in PacWest play. The Eagles are back in action on May 6, as they head to Nampa, Idaho to take on Northwest Nazarene.
