SEVILLA, Spain --- Maria Roldan has found success in the classroom and in the pool through every stage of her career. Roldan will bring strong experience from overseas and the community college level to the new Biola Women's Water Polo squad.

Head Coach Sarah Orozco is excited to bring on a well-rounded utility player such as Roldan. "Maria is a diverse addition to the team," commented Orozco. "She brings to the team a well-seasoned style of water polo to kick off the program as she comes with both international and local college water polo experience."

Roldan's start in water polo began in Spain, as she played for Club Waterpolo Dos Hermanas from a young age. The future Eagle continued her success by competing in over 100 games in the highest level of water polo in Spain, "Division de Honor".

For her senior year of high school, Roldan came to the United States of America to star at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California for one season. 

The following year, Maria began her collegiate career at Riverside Community College, offering two dominant seasons. As a freshman, Roldan captured the Co-MVP award for the Orange County Conference. 

The spectacular season featured Roldan compiling 60 goals, 40 assists and 55 steals in 33 games played. The attack specialist posted a season-high five goals in a single game, while leading the team in goals and assists on the year.

The BU offense will fully appreciate Roldan's tenacity. "I'm looking forward to having her contagious and fearless presence in the water! Maria will be a unique presence that will help shape Biola Women's Water Polo into the team we will become next year," added Orozco.

Academic excellence followed for the young talent, as she maintained a 3.5 grade-point average through all four semesters at Riverside Community College. The success in the classroom led to Dean's List recognitions for Roldan.

"I chose Biola because after visiting this amazing University my heart just felt that I have belonged to Biola forever, even though it was my first time there," said Roldan. "It offers to me the best way to grow as a person and at the same time to be successful in my academic and athletic career."
