Box Score ORANGE, Calif. --- For the second time this season Biola falls to NCAA Division III Chapman University. In 2020 Chapman was ranked as the No. 5 team in DIII Baseball and in 2019 the Panthers took down Birmingham Southern to win the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Biola didn't start their regulars in tonight's contest but was able to get them into the lineup as the game progressed. As a team, the Eagles committed five errors leading to a total of seven unearned runs.

Entering the game in the fourth inning, RobertAnthony Cruz was 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI.Tyler Baca and Brenden Bell each recorded a hit for BU. Although the pitching staff surrendered 13 runs to the Panthers, only six runs were earned. Connor Butler did not allow a run in his inning while Jake Anderson and Gilbert Lopez did not allow an earned run and only surrendered on run in their innings.

Chapman took an early lead in the bottom of the first as they plated an unearned run against BU's starter Kenny Carrillo. The Panthers plated four more runs in the bottom of the second, three of the four being unearned.

The Eagles responded with their first two runs in the top of the third. Tyler Baca led off for BU and singled through the right side giving The Eagles their lead off man on base. Tyler White took advantage of an error on Chapman's second basemen to give BU two men on with no outs. After advancing to third on a sac fly, Baca scored the first run of the evening on what looked to be a groundout for AJ Ortiz. Ortiz ended up reaching first on an error. Jackson Collins drove in White from third as the Eagles took advantage of another Chapman error.

Matthew Watson pitched a scoreless third while striking out two in the inning. BU returned some of the regulars to the lineup in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff walk was issued to Brandon Thomas, Thomas immediately stole second to give BU a runner in scoring position. Thomas advanced to third on a Ben Smith groundout and scored on a RobertAnthony Cruz single.

After a successful third inning, Watson faced trouble as he walked the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the fourth. Chapman scored three runs off Watson before Carson Cody was called on to get the final two outs. Cody entered the game with one runner on and struck out two to end the inning.

Chapman pitchers blanked Biola in the fifth through seventh innings while the Eagles surrendered two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Biola managed to scratch one run across in the top of the eighth on a Cruz double which scored Johnny Sage from first base. Chapman plated their final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning before retiring the Eagles in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday as they head to Azusa Pacific for a doubleheader before hosting APU on Saturday for two. APU is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation. For updates check athletics.biola.edu
