PORTERVILLE, Calif. --- A standout student and athlete, Ava LoBue, decided that Biola was the perfect opportunity for her higher education and water polo career. 

"Ava is a grinder when it comes to sport and will be a spark plug in the water for us next year," said head coach Sarah Orozco. "I'm excited to have her work ethic rub off on the team to help us grow into the team we are becoming next year."

Four years at Monarche High School in Porterville, California resulted in a wealth of accolades for LoBue. The right-handed attacker lettered all four years in water polo and swimming for the Marauders.

In her freshman campaign, LoBue helped the Marauders to an East Yosemite League Championship. LoBue continued to be a strong team player, boosting the squad to a pair of second place finishes in the conference and two second place finishes in the Central Section CIF Division II. 

Individually, LoBue put together two All-East Yosemite League campaigns. As a sophomore, LoBue was selected as an honorable mention, before earning a first-team recognition in her junior season.

"Ava is a bright addition to our team next year," added Orozco. "I am honored to have the chance to see her fully bloom into her potential both in the pool and in her spiritual life here at Biola."

LoBue's success continued in the classroom, making the honor roll each year at Monarche High. The high rate of excellence qualified her as a 2020 USA Water Polo Academic All-American.

"I chose Biola because it is not only an excellent school that is centered around Christ, but it will provide me with an amazing opportunity to play collegiate level water polo," said LoBue. "I have heard amazing things about head coach Sarah Orozco and I am so excited to be playing under her."
