BU Blanked by CUI

Biola was held scoreless by Concordia in the 4-0 loss.

April 23, 2021

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola dropped game two of Friday's doubleheader with a final score of 4-0. The Eagles bats went silent in the scheduled seven-inning contest while starting pitcher Brayden Englert pitched six strong innings.

Brayden Englert fell victim to a three run first inning off of four singles. Concordia was able to make weak contact and find the holes to give them the early lead. CUI added an insurance run in the third off of Englert that was scored as as unearned run.

Englert pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits while notching five strikeouts. Biola's bats couldn't get it going at the plate to give Englert some run support.

Results aside, Jeff Calhoon was pleased with what he saw from his starter. "It was a solid outing after a rough first inning for Brayden. He went back out there and kept us in the game," said Calhoon.

Concordia starter Dillon Brown held Biola scoreless through seven innings. Biola was only able to muster three hits off Brown who went the distance for Concordia in the seven inning contest.

Johnny Sage, Rhett Stein and Connor Kostecka each tallied a hit for BU while Stein was the only Eagle with an extra base hit.

BU's best chance came in the top of the sixth inning with the two on and two outs, but Brown ended the Biola rally with a strikeout to get out of the inning.

After a split with Concordia on Friday, BU looks to take two from CUI on Saturday as the Battle of the Eagles continues at Eagle's Diamond.
