AZUSA, Calif. --- The final day of competition at the Franson Classic provided a quiet atmosphere for impressive Biola performances.

Rebeka Preston finished her final three events for the heptathlon and put together a fantastic showing. On Saturday, Preston logged a 5.46m long jump, a 33.12m javelin throw and a 2:24.67 800-meter run to propel her to sixth place and 4,857 points.

"Rebeka embodies competitive spirit and it was clear in both good and bad performances," said head coach Sean Henning. "She never quit and did a really solid job of moving on to the next event each time."

In the high jump, Hanna Bevan led the field with a 1.65m mark, coming within .03 meters of the national provisional mark.

Anna Maumalanga was nothing short of sensational on Saturday, improving her own school record in the discus throw to 45.19m. The senior added another personal-best with a 38.15m hammer throw, placing second in the event. 

The 4x400 relay was another bright spot for BU, as the squad came in one second short of the school record at 3:55.28.

Abby Buckley led the Eagles in the sprints, logging times of 12.58 and 25.79 in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, respectively.

The 400-meter race featured a pair of Biola athletes in the top-10, as Natasha Currence turned in a time of 59.53 for eighth place and Alexis Madrid-Cordero nabbed a time of 1:00.06 for 10th place.

A personal best time came in from Kenzie Elliott in the 800-meter race, as the junior logged a 2:19.83 time.

Kiersten Huitt and Emily Alvarez paced the squad in the two hurdles events with Huitt taking second place with a time of 14.76 in the 100-meter hurdles. Alvarez led all competitors in the 400-meter hurdles by at least four seconds, clocking a time of 1:00.72.

The 3,000-meter steeplechase was held with just three Biola runners. Grace Catena posted the best time of the group, ending in 11:27.12.

"So right now, we feel good with most of what happened today and feel like we can continue to improve over the next few weeks," added Henning. 

Biola will be back in action at the Bryan Clay Invite on Thursday.
