IRVINE, Calif. --- On Saturday, BU Women's Track & Field competed at the Team for Ely Invite hosted by CUI where they had multiple top performances. 

The Eagles continue to be pleased with the progress they are making as they get closer to PacWest Championships. "We need to make sure we are focused on how we can continue to develop and get better, and not what other teams are doing," said Head Coach Sean Henning. "We have a good team and are proud of all they have accomplished, no matter what place that puts us at the conference level!"

Emily Alvarez continues to make impressive marks for BU. In the 400m she not only notched a personal best but also secured a conference leading time, and NCAA provisional standard with a time of 55.60, securing a first place finish in the event. 

In the 3000m steeplechase BU sent Grace Catena, Britta Holmberg and Megan Neumann to the starting line. For Catena, it was her first time ever competing in the event and she fared well with a first place finish (11:04.00), only five seconds off an NCAA provisional time. Holmberg also had a nice debut in the event taking third (11:52.00) while Neumann had a 34 second PR coming in fourth (11.53.00). 

BU had multiple second place finishes on the track. Heidi Sowers ran a sub 15 second mark for the first time in her career in the 100m hurdles (14.97). Abby Buckley crossed the finish line first in the 100m finals (12.39). 

Mackenna Mason trailed only APU's Jennifer Sandoval in the 1500m coming in second with a time of 4:45.93. BU's Jax Heckers just missed the podium coming in fourth (4:47.51) while teammates Siena Stacy and Hannah Champness both had solid PRs in the event. 

Alvarez rounded out BU's second place finishes on the track with a second place finish in the 200m (25.23) for a personal best in the event.

BU wrapped up events on the track with the 4 x 400m relay, entering two teams into the event.  Both teams did really well as each team was composed of members from the A and B team, giving BU the best shot at competing.  After a long day, both teams ran great times. Sophia Morris, Kiersten Huitt, Robin Ahlquist and Emily Alvarez secured a first place finish (3:59.15) while Alexis Madrid-Cordero, Shelby Rogers, Heidi Sowers and Natasha Currence (4:03.30) came in third. 

In the field, Rebeka Preston had a nice day with a personal best in the shot put (9.65m), conference mark in the triple jump (11.53m), and solid personal best in the 800m (2:27.18) literally one minute after her second triple jump attempt.

Hannah Hubbard had solid jumps today in the long jump with a third place finish (5.38m) and triple jump (11.28m). Hubbard continues to come around and get to the level Henning needs her to be at come conference time.

BU is back in action on April 3 as they head to Azusa for the APU Invitational. The Eagles have three straight meets at the Cougar Athletic Stadium, competing in a familiar venue should play in their favor. For updates check athletics.biola.edu.
