Offense Awakens in Win

The Eagles were strong at the plate, taking game one against DUC, 6-1, on Friday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The BU softball squad opened up a four-game weekend series against Dominican (6-3) with a comfortable win on Friday. The Eagles (6-7) matched their highest scoring output of the season, taking down DUC by a 6-1 final score.

The BU bats found success early in the contest with the first four hitters reaching base. After a leadoff walk from Ruth Munoz in the bottom of the first, three-straight singles came in from the following Eagles. The big hit came from Kayla Neff who's single from the cleanup spot scored two BU runs.

Biola loaded the bases again in the second frame, giving an opportunity to Munoz to extend the team's lead. The junior took advantage with a single to shallow left center, bringing in Allie Beck for a 3-0 BU edge.

For the third time in the contest, the Eagles loaded the bases in the fifth inning to add some insurance runs. Rilee Ruvalcaba and Kylee Messmer both found the hole on the right side of the infield, bringing home three runs for BU with back-to-back singles.

From top to bottom, the BU lineup was electric with nine different Eagles logging a base hit. Even the substitutes got in on the action with BU pinch hitters going two-for-three in the contest.

Paige Austin was dominant in the circle for Biola, notching her third win of the season. The junior gave up one hit through the first six frames and compiled 11 strikeouts, reaching double-digit whiffs for the second time this year.

Jennifer Morinishi offered her fifth multi-hit outing of 2021, leading the team with a pair of hits in game one.
