Eagles Sweep Friday Action

Roybal led the way to a 2-0 Biola victory in game two, notching her second shutout of the year.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Eagles collected their first sweep of the season, defeating Dominican in game two by a 2-0 margin. The home matchup was a defensive battle that fell the way of Biola with a pair of sixth inning runs.

Raylene Roybal carried the torch for BU in the circle and did not disappoint. The righty pitcher cruised through the Penguin lineup with very little resistance.

The freshman was in complete control, holding the guests to three hits and four total baserunners. Roybal came out hurling, tossing three perfect frames to start the contest. The finish was just as good as the start with Roybal posting a three up three down seventh inning.

The impressive effort from Roybal marked the third complete game and the second shutout of the year for the young talent.

Similar to Dominican, Biola struggled to get the offense going in the Friday night competition. The third inning brought action for BU, as the team loaded the bases with one out but were stopped with two strong defensive plays from the Penguins.

With the game all square at 0-0, BU looked to move ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Kylie Velasco and Jennifer Morinishi paired up for two singles to start the inning, putting runners on first and second with no one out. A bunt single from catcher Kayla Neff  juiced the bases with still zero outs.

On the first pitch of the next at bat, all three runners were moving on the pitch but a missed bunt left them stranded. Velasco won a game of pickle with the third baseman and catcher to record a steal and the go-ahead run for BU.

Abie Nowak added to the lead with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Morinishi for the 2-0 Biola triumph.

Roybal was stout all-around on Friday, knocking a team-high two hits for her first multi-hit effort in her career. Neff's late hit extended her hitting streak to six-straight games.

Biola improved to 7-7 on the season with the win and will face off against Dominican on Saturday in another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
