Jamir Nets Golden Goal

Biola takes down Westmont, 2-1, as Jamir scores the game-winner in overtime.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola nabbed a thrilling win over the visiting NAIA Westmont Warriors on Monday. An overtime match ended in the Eagles favor with the host squad picking up a 2-1 victory.

With the match knotted a one goal apiece, the two teams battled it out in overtime. For the first overtime period, 10 minutes are put on the clock and the first scored goal ends the match.

Halie Jamir provided the golden goal for BU, using her right foot to place the ball off the left post and into the back of the net. The sophomore picked the perfect time for her first goal of the season, giving Biola the 2-1 triumph.

Mason Stansberry set up the play with a great run up the middle of the pitch. The forward played the ball to the outside and to the feet of Ell Tinsley. Tinsley needed just one touch to poke the ball across to Jamir, who gathered the pass and sent it in.

Great goalie action from the Eagles allowed for the late-game heroics from Jamir. Briana Ruelas posted back-to-back saves in the opening minute of overtime, keeping BU alive.

In the first half of the contest, Biola was the team to grab the slight edge. Stansberry scored a goal of her own in the 30th minute of the match, taking advantage of a wild pass from the Warriors' keeper. Following the turnover, Stansberry pushed ahead and outdueled the goalie for her first goal of the season.

Westmont responded in the second half, putting together an aggressive attack. The visitors notched seven shots to BU's two and ultimately collected one goal to even the match at 1-1.

On the night, the Warriors outshot Biola, 14-7, with five more shots on-goal. The BU attack found multiple advantages as well, resulting in four corner kicks.

The BU keepers were effective on Monday, grabbing seven saves in the match. Ruelas led the way with five in just over 48 minutes of work and Anna Boyer followed with two saves through the first half.

With the Monday victory, Biola improved to 2-2 on the year and will return to action on the road against Azusa Pacific on Thursday, March 25.
