Biola Sets Multiple Personal Bests

Women's Track & Field finishes second at APU, men finish third.

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field enjoyed a nice day at the Battle for Southern California meet hosted by Azusa Pacific. After posting a first place finish at the Central California Invitational last week, the Women's Track and Field team finished second to APU with 188.50 points on the day while the men came in third (102 points), just one point behind Concordia University Irvine (103 points).

BU Track and Field saw multiple first place finishes from both teams at the Battle for SoCal. Freshman Chase Williams took the 100m dash with a time of 10.77 for a personal best. Williams also finished first in the 200m dash again accomplishing a personal best with a time of 22.31.

Christian Lukens improved his personal best in the 400m hurdles, cracking the sub 1:00 mark with a time of :57.49 for first place. For the women, Carissa Kalpakjian recorded a personal best in the 200 m dash with a mark of 25.28 for first place.


In the field BU's Hannah Hubbard finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.41 m while Gabriel Igbokwe and Josh Jackson finished first and second in the men's triple jump with marks of 14.05m and 14.02m respectively. 

Sophomore Justin Conklin continues to get better each meet, he had a great performance in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.50, good enough for second place. Junior CMA major Mathias Davis also recorded a new best in the 400 m dash with a time of 49.31, also taking home second place.

After taking first at the Central California Invitational, Emily Alvarez continued to shave time off her 400m hurdles mark with a time of 1:00.28. The mark gives Alvarez the school record for the 400m hurdles, breaking a time of 1:01.42 set in 2014.

Newcomer Britta Holmberg joined the PR club by logging a 10:37.65 mark in the 3000m run finishing second to APU's Jennifer Sandoval. She along with others continue to be bright spots for the programs future. 

Anna Maumalanga finished third in a close discus throw, finishing with a new personal record of 11.26m while Rebeka Preston took third with a mark of 1.63m matching her mark from the Westmont College Sunshine Collegiate and Combined Events Meet. 


The Eagles are back in action on Marc. 27 at Westmont before they head back to APU for the Fransen Classic and Multis (Apr. 2 & 3) and the Bryan Clay Invite (Apr. 15 & 16). For meet updates and live results check athletics.biola.edu.
