LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another hard fought battle at Chase Gymnasium today. In a matchup that featured the Eagles on both sides of the ball, Concordia Irvine earned the overtime win with the help of a strong performance from junior, Katie Timmerman.
Biola opened the game with a three-pointer from Stephanie Lee in what was a very even matched first quarter. With under two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Lee brought BU back within one point of CUI. Concordia Irvine would carry the lead into the second quarter.Â
Lee continued to have a hot hand for Biola, she finished with 13 points for her tenth double-digit game of the season with nine of her 13 points coming off three-pointers.Â
Maddi Chang also had herself a night from behind the arc making four of eight three-point attempts and adding 13 points and six rebounds for BU.Â
After a back and forth first half, CUI would enter the second half with a three-point lead over Biola. Concordia wasted no time adding to their lead, scoring the first five points to open the third quarter.
With seven minutes and change remaining in the quarter, Danita Estorga sank a three-pointer to bring Biola within five-points of Concordia Irvine. Estorga would finish the game with a career high 16 points and 5 rebounds while going 101 from the foul line.Â
Biola was down but not out, they would fight back from an eleven point deficit in the fourth quarter, forcing the game to extend into overtime.Â
CUI secured the first two points of the extra period, their lead would not stand long as Jazz Benn sank a three to give BU the one-point advantage.Â
Following Benn's three-pointer, Concordia Irvine would go on a nine-point run to close out the game with a final score of 72-64.
Biola could not find a way to stop Concordia Irvine's Katie Timmerman, it seemed that each time she touched the ball it ended with a score for CUI. Timmerman finished with 32 points, she shot 50% from the field (11-22) and was perfect from the foul line (5-5).Â
The loss drops Biola Women's Basketball to 3-9 overall (2-9 PacWest). Biola will have another chance at Concordia Irvine as they travel to Irvine for a 2 p.m. tipoff on Saturday. Follow along as BU looks to take game two and even the series from Concordia Irvine.Â
