PacWest SoCal Volleyball Schedule Announced

Biola set for a nine-game regular season for 2021

February 25, 2021

IRVINE, Calif, --- The PacWest Southern California Pod gave final approval for the BU Volleyball schedule that features nine total contests and six conference games. BU will get back into action with their first contest of the shortened season as the Eagles head to Costa Mesa to take on Vanguard on Mar. 6. The Eagles open up PacWest play at home on Mar. 17 against Point Loma, as they host the Sea Lions at Chase Gymnasium.

Following their 14-8 2019 campaign, BU Volleyball was ready to jump right into their off-season training. What they were not expecting was a 15 month off-season after the COVID-19 pandemic eliminated their hopes for a 2020 season.

Head Coach Aaron Seltzer and his team are beyond excited to get to play in 2021 even if it is a shortened season.

"We are all excited to get back to any form of competition since it has been over 15 months since our last competition," said Coach Seltzer. "Unfortunately with the restrictions put on us by LA County we will not get to enjoy the full season that the majority of the country is experiencing, but we are thankful for what we do have and the chance to compete against our So Cal group!"

The PacWest Southern California Pod includes Azusa Pacific, Biola, Concordia Irvine and Point Loma. Azusa Pacific (1) and Point Loma (5) finished in the top-five of the PacWest in 2019, followed closely by Biola (6) and Concordia Irvine (7).

Players to Watch
Libero/Defensive Specialist: Sami Hover
Hover enters her senior season after earning All-PacWest second team honors for the second straight year in 2019. In her junior campaign, the defensive specialist was awarded PacWest Defender of the Week three times. The Arizona native tallied 614 digs in 2019 for a new career high and averaged 5.43 digs per set to lead the team (a career-high and most in over 30 years for BU Volleyball). Hover's current dig total sits at 1,613, in the shortened season Hover will work tirelessly to get as close as she can to the 2,000 career dig mark.

Middle Blocker: Bekah Roth
Roth, another senior who looks to lead BU Volleyball, played in all 30 matches for Biola in 2019. She notched 267 kills while averaging 2.43 kills per set earning her All-PacWest second team honors. Roth recorded 65 blocks on the year and had a career-high 16 kills in a win over PLNU on 11/20/2019. Coach Seltzer will rely on his All-PacWest middle blocker to be a threat at the net this season.

No spectators will be allowed in-person during this 2021 season, however, all Biola home games will be live streamed for free at Biola Atheltics Youtube. All dates/times are subject to change.
