Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Concordia Clips Biola, 4-1

Biola cannot recover from going a man down in the first half and come up short.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The PacWest Conference home opener did not go quite as drawn up for Biola Men's Soccer on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles were behind the eight-ball pretty early on and could not fight all the way back in a 4-1 loss to Concordia Irvine.

The visiting Eagles got a pair of first-half goals to set the tone and Biola had to play one man down for almost 50 minutes after a sliding tackle from behind on a breakaway caused a player to be sent off.

It was a double-dip for Concordia Irvine on that play as not only was the player sent off for BU, but Concordia managed to score directly on the ensuing free kick to go up 2-0 right before the break.

Even one man down, Biola managed to use a counterattack to find a goal of their own and begin a fight back in the 57th minute. Adam Jones took the ball on the near side just outside the penalty area and served a ball to Aidan Hill who deflected the ball off the keeper and into the back of the net to cut the Concordia lead to just one.

Unfortunately for Biola, the visiting team used some solid connections on balls swung in from their wings to score a third and fourth tally and put the game out of reach by the 69th minute.

CUI would find the back of the net two more times in the second half, but both those scores were called off due to their attackers being offside.

The chances were fairly even with Biola taking 12 shots and CUI 15 in this one. There was an imbalance in bookings, though, with BU receiving the one red card and three cautions to just one caution handed to CUI.

The Eagles' best chance to not materialize was late in the first half (40th minute) as Jonathan Serrano and Jack MacDonald had back-to-back chances from just in front of the keeper that we stopped.

CUI's pair of keepers concluded with three saves, while Luis Rodriguez battled his way through a few defensive breakdowns to pick up four saves. He had two tremendous stretching efforts on the two CUI first-half scores as well, but came up just a few inches short on the stops.

The loss drops Biola to 0-2 (0-2 PacWest) while Concordia Irvine starts their year off with a win to go to 1-0 (1-0 PacWest). Next up for Biola is Bethesda University next Wednesday at home.
