Biola unable to score in another physical battle with Point Loma, fall 1-0

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer took the field today in the second matchup against the undefeated Sea Lions this season. In another physical battle, PLNU held Biola scoreless for 90 minutes.

Although the final results did not favor Biola, Head Coach Torrey Stricklen was still proud of the effort he saw from his team.

"I am proud of our guys for the character and commitment they showed for 90 minutes," said Coach Stricklen. "We have a lot of injuries right now and only had 12 guys eligible to play, that's no excuse but I am still proud of the effort put forth by our team."

There was no shortage of physical play in tonight's action. The back and forth match featured nine total yellow cards being issued to both teams, five to BU and four to PLNU.

Point Loma's first chance of the night came in the 17th minute of the game, they were unable to score as JD Gunn made a diving save. In his second game of the year, Gunn kept the Sea Lions off the board in the first half with three saves.

Both teams walked off the field in the first half scoreless after 45 minutes of back and forth action.

Point Loma started the second half on the attack. After another save by Gunn, PLNU scored the lone goal of the night on a deflection headed in by Corey Lundeen just 40 seconds into the second half.

In the final 20 minutes of the game, Biola was able to put up four shots but could not get the ball past PLNU's Ryan Pierce who collected three saves on the night.

Point Loma would outshoot Biola 16 shots to 10 while both teams traded corner kicks, finishing with five each. The Sea Lions were whistled for 12 more fouls than the Eagles (18) on the night.

The loss brings Biola to 0-3-0 (0-3-0 PacWest) on the season. The Sea Lions improve to 4-0-0 (3-0-0 Pacwest).

Next up, the Eagles head to Concordia Irvine on Mar. 3 as they seek their first PacWest win of the season.  is three home matches in a row, beginning Feb. 10 when BU hosts Concordia Irvine (2-2-0, 1-1-0 PacWest). Watch that game for free live at CUI Athletics.
