RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola swimming and diving began the Cal Baptist Winter Invite on Friday afternoon. The team offered a worthy performance in the opening day of competition, battling against a field of, Cal Baptist, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Cal Poly Pomona, Concordia and Linfield.

On the day, the women's side placed fourth in the field of seven teams with 158 points. The men took third-of-six through the first 46 events, posting 278.5 points.

Grace Kling was the first Eagle to hit a top-five mark on Friday. The sophomore notched a time of 30.09 to nab fifth in the 50yd breaststroke. In the same event on the men's side, James Gamette starred for BU, taking third place with a time of 26.24. Jacob Haaksma came in .68 seconds behind Gamette to take fifth in the race.

The long distance 500yd freestyle swim featured an impressive performance from Gabe Weber. The junior posted a time of 4:42.16 and took third in the event.

Kolya Vos and Tanner Smith shined the 50yd backstroke with both swimmers landing amongst the top-four. Smith took fourth with a time of 24:50, while Vos nabbed third on the women's side with a time of 27:28.

The individual medley of Liza Parahnevich was good enough for fourth place on Friday. The junior came out of the gates fast with the second-quickest time on the first split. Through the four stage race, Parahnevich finished with a mark of 2:06.37 for the top-five placement.

The Eagles will look to have a strong finish on Saturday with the final day of the Cal Baptist Winter Invite starting at 9:00 am.
