Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Five Eagles Score Against Top Seed

Biola moves into seventh-place game on Saturday at 2 p.m.

DAVIS, Calif. --- Biola Men's Water Polo had the honor of playing in the only non-neutral site game on day one of the Western Water Polo Association Men's Championship as the Eagles battled top-seed and host UC Davis in a second-round tilt.

The Eagles were ushered into the consolation bracket following a 21-5 defeat at the hands of the reigning conference champs and current No. 11 team in the country.

The Aggies scored the first six goals in the contest to rule the roost in the first period. It wasn't until Dominic Hidalgo-Valecillo found the back of the twine with the first goal by either side in period two that the BU offense got off the schneid.

After that, UCD rattled off another five in a row to firmly cement their control on the game before Luke Franklin hit the back of the net by profiting off discovering a free floating deflected ball at center from two meters out.

The Aggies would take a 14-2 lead into halftime and then rule the third period 3-0 to lead into Biola's best quarter of the match, which was the fourth.

Biola outscored it's total from the first three periods with three goals in the final eight minutes of the game. Nolan Rapp, Jonas Huckabay and Kenny Wulf each found the cage in the final frame to show some spirit ahead of progressing into day two of the tournament.

Wulf's goal came on a breakaway as he did the work to draw a five-meter, was not awarded said five-meter and then buried it from the field despite not getting the call. It was his fifth goal of the day, following his heroic four-goal effort in the opening win.

The win for UC Davis made it such that the top-4 teams in the seeding each advanced through to the tournament's semifinals. Those semifinal matches will be played at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. tomorrow as games two and three of the second day. Biola will face Concordia Irvine (8-16, 2-6 WWPA) at 2 p.m. in the seventh-place game. BU will be looking for a win in its final match of the historic inaugural season.
