Eagles Conquer The Knights

BU closes out their roadtrip with a three-set sweep against the Urban Knights.

Box Score BELMONT, Calif.--- Biola Volleyball continued to stay hot as they swept Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon by earning a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) victory to keep their 10-match winning streak at Walter Gleason Gym. 

BU did their part by working together overall, "it was a solid team performance," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. The box score doesn't lie, Biola exceeded their opponents in aces (9-0), assists (45-36), and kills (49-37).

Art U had the upper hand in set one scoring on Biola's attack errors to get a 5-0 advantage in the beginning of the match. One very long run changed the whole game around to get BU its momentum back making the score 8-5. 

Sami Hover again brought her arm with the killer serves, not only with a season-high of five aces, but also with two assists and 20 digs on the night, 

"Hover dug everything within 10 feet of her. She was unstoppable," mentioned Seltzer. Her performance in serve receive was critical in keeping Biola from being aced all day.

Biola continued to stay ahead of the Knights throughout the remainder of this set, completing set one with a 3-0 run starting with a kill by Raegan Tjepkema and two service aces by Mary McDonnell to complete 25-18. 

Tjepkema led the flock tonight with 13 kills, an outstanding .600 hitting percentage, three blocks, two digs and one assist. 

The redshirt sophomore was just what Biola needed tonight, "Raegan played so well today, she was consistent and dominated the middle for us," said the Head Coach. 


Biola Volleyball continued to cruise after winning set one, beginning the second set of this match with a 10-5 advantage. Dominique Kirton caught fire during this run, with multiple kills being very quick from the back row. The Washington native put up 12 kills, five digs and one ace to help her team. 
The Knights found some life with a 5-0 run to make this match interesting and tie it up 10-10. Both teams pieced together multiplied points making the match close but Biola used their momentum to finish set number two with a kill by Tjepkema to win, 25-21. 

The final set of this competition featured a fairly close battle early on, however the Eagles soon got right back into the groove with a 6-0 run and a 16-12 lead. BU capitalized on the Urban Knights' mistakes to stay ahead of their opponent throughout the remainder of this match , capping off the victory with a kill from Dani Bryant to end the end 25-16. 

The No.2 team in the PacWest Conference prepared to compete in the Cornerstone Cup against Azusa Pacific (17-8, 12-5 PacWest) away at 7 p.m. at Felix Event Center. That match will be Thursday this week in advance of Biola's senior day Saturday against Point Loma. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
