LA MIRADA --- Play on the field and prowess in the classroom propelled Katelyn Penner to a CoSIDA Academic All-District award. The 2021 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team was announced on Thursday and recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their academic and athletic success. 

Biola women's soccer head coach Erin Brunelle was extremely proud of her athlete's accomplishment, "This is a wonderful recognition for Katelyn.  She has led by example since her first day on campus and consistently sharpens others around her through her dedication and work ethic."

Penner was one of 11 student-athletes selected to the NCAA DII District 8 All-District team. The BU midfielder was one of three chosen for her position and was one of only two athletes recognized from the PacWest conference.

Penner has been the anchor for the Eagles in 2021. The senior has logged all but seven minutes on the pitch this season, compiling 1454 minutes played.

Entering the final regular season match for BU, Penner had posted two goals and one assist with 17 total shots. Penner's first tally of 2021 was a game-winner in a 1-0 battle against CSU Los Angeles.

"She has balanced the high demands of school, soccer, and an internship this season, and has made it all look so easy to navigate," added Brunelle. " She pours her whole heart into all that she does, fully relying on God's strength and giving Him all of the glory for any success she has in life."

The Beaverton, Oregon native is majoring in kinesiology, while boasting a grade-point average of 4.00. "She is a student first in all aspects of life, whether it's constantly seeking to learn more about her relationship with Christ, diving deep into her studies and coursework, or learning how to be a better teammate, player, and leader on the pitch," said Brunelle.

"We congratulate Katelyn and know she will be praising Jesus for making it all possible!"

First-team Academic All-District honorees, such as Penner, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. After a voting period, Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
