Le Calve Magic

Theo Le Calve played a part in both Biola goals, including the game-winner against Fresno Pacific.

FRESNO, Calif. — An evenly played match crept into the waning minutes on Saturday night. Fresno Pacific and Biola were knotted at one goal apiece, as the contest looked to be headed to overtime. Enter Theo Le Calve.

The midfielder earned a free kick in the 87th minute around 35 yards away from the goal. The ensuing shot from the left-footed Le Calve curved and bounced towards the near post and snuck by the FPU goalie.

The incredible score sealed the match for Biola (6-4-0, 2-1-0 PW), as the visitors snatched the 2-1 win over Fresno Pacific (2-5-0, 1-2-0 PW).

The first half of Saturday's contest belonged to the Sunbirds, who took the lead in the 30th minute. Despite being down at the half, Biola was able to find quality opportunities with six shots, including a miss off the left post.

The tide turned in the 53rd minute with an equalizer from the Eagles. The star of the match, Le Calve, lobbed in a free kick from the right side of the pitch just outside the box. The 6-2 defender, Izaac Zausch, flew in and headed the ball into the back of the net, logging his second score of the season. Moose Bonat earned the opportunity for BU, drawing a foul in the advantageous position.

Le Calve increased his point total in 2021 to seven on Saturday, as he leads the team in assists, while tying five Eagles for the team-high of two goals.

JD Gunn picked up the win in goal, nabbing four saves on the night. The junior keeper came up clutch in the second half, collecting a pair of crucial saves to maintain the 1-1 tie.

BU will now shift its focus to its Hawaii road trip, as the team plans to face Chaminade next Saturday at 5:30 pm.
