Second Half Surge

The Eagles piled on three goals in the second half to take home the 3-1 win over Chaminade.

HONOLULU, Hawaii — A three-match Hawaii road trip began on Saturday for the Eagles (7-4-0, 3-1-0 PW), as the men's soccer team battled the Chaminade Silverswords (2-6-0, 0-4-0 PW). BU found its groove in the second half to pick up the 3-1 victory in the weekend matchup.

The hosting Silverswords jumped out to the early lead, taking advantage of a penalty kick. The one score lead for CUH carried into the halftime break following the opening 45 minutes of action.

The tide turned when the athletes returned to the field for the second half, as the Eagles logged five more shots and five more corners. The Eagles were on the attack from the opening kickoff of the second half, looking to take control of the contest.

Theo Le Calve provided the equalizer in the 57th minute, delivering on a perfectly placed through ball from Aidan Hill. The opportunity began with a Silversword turnover in their own half of the field. Hill gathered the ball and dribbled forward before passing the ball towards the streaking Le Calve on the left side of the box. The left-footed midfielder settled the ball with his first touch and then placed it inside the back post for the score.

Less than two minutes later, Biola struck again. Gabriel Berthoud caught the defense sleeping and slipped behind the backline to receive a long pass from Izaac Zausch. With Berthoud alone along the right side, Adam Jones came in for support in the center of the box. The two Eagles connected on the pass, allowing Jones to tap in an easy goal for a 2-1 Biola lead.

With just over 32 minutes on the clock, the BU defense knew what it needed to do. Luis Rodriguez led the way in goal, as the Eagles maintained their advantage and finished out the victory. The win at keeper for Rodriguez improved his season record to 3-2.

The offense did its part as well, adding to the lead with a corner kick. Berthoud picked up his second assist of the day, sending in the corner to the head of Pontus Gitselov. The forward redirected the ball to the bottom left of the goal for BU's third tally of the contest.

On the day, Jones and Le Calve each added their third goal for the season, as the duo sits side-by-side on the team's goal leaderboard.

Biola will look to keep its momentum, as the Eagles shift their focus to their next match against Hawaii Pacific on Monday at 10:00 pm PST.
