Just One Short

The Eagles came up one goal short in a Wednesday loss at Point Loma.

SAN DIEGO — Many scoring opportunities for both teams came up empty but the Sea Lions snuck one into the net on Wednesday to edge the visiting Eagles. PLNU (6-2-1, 3-0-0 PW) improved on its six-match scoreless streak, while narrowly beating out BU (5-4-0, 1-1-0 PW) with the 1-0 final score.

The Biola offense was humming in the opening half, finding threatening opportunities from multiple angles. Theo Le Calve put together a prime run, utilizing his fancy footwork to earn a one-on-one with the goalie. Ketterer of PLNU won the battle though, keeping BU off the scoreboard.

In total, the Eagles offered up five shots with each on-goal in the first half. BU led the hosting Sea Lions in shots on-goal, as the two teams held even at 0 heading into the halftime break.

Point Loma took control in the second half, winning the battle in the midfield. The aggressive play led to six shots and two corners for the hosting Sea Lions in the second 45 minutes of action.

The game-winning goal broke through for PLNU in the 61st minute. A rolling cross from Austin Lavell slipped through the box and was placed in the goal by the wide-open Teague Anderson.

BU's lone attempt at the goal in the second half came from Jonathan Serrano, who launched a shot that was blocked in the 63rd minute.

Le Calve and Serrano each recorded a pair of shots on the day to lead the BU squad. Pontus Gitselov and Oscar Rubalcava also got in on the action with one shot on-goal.

BU will continue its five-match road trip on Saturday with a match against Fresno Pacific at 7:30 pm.
