OAKLAND, Calif. --- BU swimming and diving jumped in for a second-straight day of competition, battling in the Bay Area Invite at Mills College. The two Biola squads finished amongst the middle of the pack, as the women notched fourth with 416 points and the men nabbed third with 662 points.

"I was really impressed with how both of our teams dealt with adversity this entire week, including this weekend," commented head coach Nate Harding. Closure of the Lansing Pool at the Biola campus, disrupted the team's ability to prepare for the pair of weekend competitions in the bay area. "This weekend's performances only solidified this program's mentality to fight through whatever is thrown at them."

Morgan Kampfer highlighted the day for Biola, pulling off an event win in the 200-fly. The freshman scored the best finish of her young career with a 2:12.07 mark in the event. Kampfer added a fourth place finish in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:16.24. 

On the men's side, Nathan Schwantes was also cooking in the 200-fly on Saturday. Schwantes took second in the race, posting a time of 2:01.47. The junior also led the Eagles in the 200-IM in third place, while Ryan Monrean and Ethan Crabb followed in fifth and seventh, respectively.

The BU squad posted two top-seven finishes in the women's 100-backstroke. Kolya Vos scored 17 points for the team, nabbing second place and a time of 1:00.80. Adding 12 points to the team score, Anna Haaksma finished with a time of 1:03.91 in seventh place.

Jake Michelsen showed off his speed in the 50 and 100-freestyle events, notching second and third, respectively. In the 100 yard event, Michelson tied for the best time in the seeding race, before logging a 22.14 time in the final.

The Eagles had a strong team performance in the 500-freestyle, led by Michael Maurer. The sophomore took third in the race with a time of 4:58.00. Westin Dawe and Noah Benson were also impressive in the long distance event, going back-to-back in fifth and sixth with nearly identical times of 5:05.23 and 5:05.46, respectively.

The women's 800-free relay featured third and fourth finishes for the Biola squad. The third place grouping included Audrey Vermeulen, Kampfer, Kasidee Pascoe and Sofia Chavez-Varela, who all combined for a time of 8:15.85.

Tanner Smith (backstroke), Benson (breaststroke), Dylan Pon (butterfly) and Michelsen (freestyle) worked together in the 400-medley relay on Saturday. A time of 3:37.47 was good enough to score second place in the event.

"Our theme for this season is 'BUilt for the Fight' and our team showed that this weekend," added Harding. "Our coaching staff couldn't be more excited."

Biola will return to the pool at the Redlands - La Verne Tri-Meet on November 6.
