Box Score
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- Biola Men's Water Polo had easily its best performance of 2021 on Friday morning at Cal Lutheran. The Eagles began their round robin tournament with a matchup against Ottawa (Ariz.) and set down the Spirit by a final tally of 15-7.

A hat trick from Kenny Wulf and 16 big blocks from Mitchell Carpenter led the charge as Head Coach Rick Nordell's side picked up its second win of the inaugural season and was able to let out a massive sigh of relief with a huge positive result.

The 15 goals is a new season-best for BU and allowed the Eagles to answer back for a 13-10 loss to Ottawa earlier in the season at the Gary Troyer tournament.

The Eagles' 15 goals came on 34 shot attempts. That equated to a .441 shooting percentage, which is a big uptick from the team's season average of .283. Carpenter's heroics limited the Spirit to just a .212 percentage. Today's effort is the ninth time this season Carpenter's managed to record 16 or more blocks.

It's the second time this season Biola's managed to hold an opponent under 10 goals. In both such games, Biola earned the victory.

The Eagles has 12 different scorers in the opener on Friday. Wulf's three led the way and Maxwell Osborn also was a repeat scorer. Outside of that it was a total team effort against the Spirit's combination of Zackery Whidden and Clay Gyde.

The win allows Biola to move to 2-19 on the season and split the year with Ottawa 1-1. There is one match left in the regular season as Biola plays the hosts Cal Lutheran (17-3, 9-1 SCIAC) at 1 p.m.
