Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Rapp, Carpenter Conclude Regular Season Atop WWPA

Biola drops its finale, but two players lead statistical categories in the conference.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- Following a thrilling and decisive win in its early game, Biola Men's Water Polo was looking to go 2-for-2 for the first time this season as it matched up with Cal Luthern in the final regular season contest.

The Kingsmen proved to be too much, continuing their incredible 2021 season by defeating Biola's Eagles 12-5 to improve to 18-3 overall. It was the fifth-consecutive victory for CLU.

Luke Franklin had his fourth multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice on his four total shot attempts. His first goal came just one possession before the end of the first period and brought Biola as close as it would get in the contest, down just 3-2 through eight minutes.

The hosts outscored Biola 4-0 in period number two, though, taking firm control of the game headed into the second half.

Franklin, Matthew Vinson and John Grasso found the twine through the second half, but the team in purple was able to sneak it past Mitchell Carpenter five more times to bring the game to its final at 12-5.

Carpenter was once again fantastic, stopping 14 shots to bring his regular season tally to 234 total saves. His average is just shy of 10.7 saves-per-contest. Both numbers put him squarely at number one among the Western Water Polo Association goalies.

Other notables from this last hurrah were the two assists and three steals for Nolan Rapp. Rapp finishes up the regular season with 44 steals. He had three steals in each of his last three outings. The 44 steals is also the best mark in the WWPA.

Biola finishes its inaugural regular season with a 2-20 overall. The Eagles have a few weeks off from competition before they begin play at the Western Water Polo Association championship at UC Davis November 19-21.
