Kirton leads Biola to a 3-1 victory over Fresno Pacific, Sami Hover makes program history.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Playing back-to-back nights at home Biola volleyball played some exceptional volleyball in transit to a 3-1 win (25-8; 22-25, 25-14; 25-23), beating Fresno Pacific. 
 
The home team got off to the right start, killing the game taking a 5-0 lead in set one capitalizing on the rallies between both teams, that would ultimately lead to only allowing the Sunbirds to score eight and Biola having a 1-0 advantage in the match. It was the first time since October 2019 Biola held an opponent to single-digits in a set to 25.

The Eagles allowed their opponent to compete with them throughout the whole second set neck-and-neck. The Eagles came back from being behind 23-17, holding their competitor to not score, to get within two at 24-22, but Biola came back a little too late and FPU secured the win for the second set.

The Eagles provided a huge spark off the bench, with Dominique Kirton tallying 17 kills at a .179 clip with one block and 13 digs. 

"Dominique had a fantastic night. We really got to see her arm showcase, she had some of the best swings we've seen this year," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. 

Redshirt sophomore Marissa Price logged a season high of 23 assists, chipped in 10 digs, with a service ace. Abigail Copeland came in defensively at the net recording five kills and three blocks. 

BU came out ready to work in the third set taking a 4-0 lead, capitalizing seven rallies in a row 17-8  and cruised to the 25-14 finish from there.

The Sunbirds charged hard, securing the first point for the fourth set having the lead and brought things back competing with the Eagles throughout the whole set. The Sunbirds halted Biola at 11 points, using a five-point run to take a 14-11 lead. But, Biola kept grinding, working as a team from contributions all over the court, finished with a kill by Raegan Tjepkema to end the game 25-23. 

The win allowed Biola to improve to 11-7 (7-3 PacWest), while the visitors fell to 5-16 (2-9 PacWest).

The pair of Sami Hover and Abby Brewster combined for 63 digs in the back row for the Eagles. Hover sets a new program record for a match-high with 47 digs. It was also a PacWest Conference record for most digs in a four-set match. Brewster logged six kills as she connected well with her setters, adding to her impressive 16 digs. 

Seltzer credits FPU for playing extremely hard. 

"They were relentless and the only way to win was to outlast them. We kept swinging and eventually we broke through, and overall it was a very good night," said Seltzer. 

As a whole, Biola hit .261 and restricted Fresno Pacific to .071, only allowing them to 29 assists, 87 digs and 31 kills the whole match. 

The Eagles are back in action for another home match on Monday as they look toward Chaminade (19-4, 9-2 PacWest) at 7p.m. at Chase Gymnasium. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
