Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ethan McGarvey, Assistant Sports Information Director

Comeback Kings

For the third-straight match, BU overcame a deficit in the second half to extend its winning streak.

WAIPAHU, Hawaii — In its second match in Hawaii, the BU men's soccer squad faced off against Hawaii Pacific (3-5-2, 1-1-2 PW). Three goals in the final 10 minutes helped push the Eagles (8-4-0, 4-1-0 PW) past the Sharks on the way to a 4-2 victory on Monday.

The comeback win extended the team's winning streak to three matches. In all three of those contests Biola trailed at some point in the second half. The late match heroics on Monday improved the team's overall record to 8-4, which is the team's best start to a season since the 2016 campaign.

Before the second half surge, Moose Bonat was the lone scorer in the opening half, giving Biola the first lead of the day. Bonat took advantage of a loose ball in front of the goal, following a shot off the left post by Adam Jones

After an early shot on-goal from Jonathan Serrano, the second half belonged to the Sharks. The host squad piled on nine shots in the half and tacked on two goals. The two scores came in the first 16 minutes of the second half, putting HPU ahead, 2-1.

The one goal advantage held steady for the Sharks for just over 20 minutes, as they looked to close out the match. Despite logging just six shots in the second half, the Eagles showed their accuracy, landing all six shots on-goal and finding the back of the net in the 82nd minute.

Bonat was at the focal point of the attack once again, assisting on BU's equalizer. The freshman forward held the ball on the left side along the goal line and passed it in to Oscar Rubalcava, who easily tapped it in for the 2-2 tie.

With roughly eight minutes on the clock, it was either team's match to take. Biola was the team to seize the moment, connecting on the next two shots they took.

The game-winner came in from Serrano in the 87th minute of the match. The midfielder received a great ball from Jones to knock in his first goal of the season. The score hit the back of the net with three minutes remaining, essentially ending the competition.

The Eagles offense was not finished though. Jones put an exclamation point at the end of the match scoring with 30 second left. BU's leading goal-scorer tallied his fourth goal of the season, while Rubalcava notched his first assist of the year on the pass that led to the score.

Jones, Bonat and Rubalcava each recorded a goal and an assist in Monday's contest. The trio all impressed, while coming off the bench for Biola.

BU will finish off their trip to Hawaii with a match on Thursday against Hawaii Hilo at 5:30 pm PST.
