PORTLAND, Ore. --- If Biola Men's Water Polo was looking for someone who could bring a strong leadership voice to the early years of the program, attacker Max Osborn has the resume for just that role. 

A graduate of Reynolds High School in Portland and transfer from Long Beach City College, Osborn has been part of teams that have earned top finishes at state tournaments in four consecutive years. He's played an integral role in much of his teams' successes and has the personal accolades to show for it, too. 

So he has the experience to back up high expectations for his new team when the Eagles begin competing next September. 

Osborn signed with the prestigious Long Beach City program after a tenure at Reynolds High that included a Mt. Hood League MVP award on top of two OHSWPC 6A All-Oregon recognitions and two junior olympics gold bracket qualifications for water polo. Along the way, the Raiders posted three top-five finishes at the state tournament with Osborn on the roster, including a third-place finish in 2017. And during that same timeframe, the attacker garnered a team MVP, all-state tournament honors and was named a high school All-American by Pamplin News Group.

The future Eagle was also an accomplished swimmer at Reynolds, winning a Mt. Hood League title in the 200 freestyle. But Osborn kept his focus on water polo and joined a Vikings team that had a stellar 2019 season. 

Getting 18 goals from Osborn across 18 games during the 2019 campaign, Long Beach City College rolled to a South Coast Conference Championship and advanced to the CCCAA Championship game before the conclusion of its 29-win season. The year was another addition in a long string of conference championships and postseason success for the Vikings, so the 6-3 attacker knows what type of environment Head Coach Rick Nordell's program needs to create to achieve its ambitions.

Osborn also has a clear idea of how beneficial his time at Biola will be. Several members of his family, including his father, received degrees from the institution and Osborn plans to continue that tradition as a strong student himself. He was an honor roll student who earned dual credits for college courses during his time at Reynolds. And he plans to major in applied physics at Biola before pursuing a masters of engineering.

Osborn would like to work in car design after his studies. But he knows there's a lot to be excited about in his immediate future as well.

"I chose Biola for the amazing opportunity to be part of a new water polo program and to study  the incredible Alton and Lydia Lim Center," said Osborn. "I'm also excited to do both those things inside of a Christian environment."
