LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola Baseball coaching staff reaffirmed its ties to the Northwest baseball fraternity with the addition of Ryan Sires as an assistant coach. 

Sires comes to Eagles Diamond after two years packed with concentrated coaching experience at the collegiate level. After working at the high school and travel ball level from 2016 to 2018, Sires spent the last two years working with the highly regarded two-year program at Yakima Valley College and carrying head coach responsibilities for the Portland Prairie Dogs and Western Nebraska Pioneers summer ball teams. 

"Ryan is a hard worker that we have known about for a while now. He has done a great job as an assistant coach at YVC with their players and the overall success of their program," said Head Coach Jeff Calhoon. "He has been molded by Kyle Krustangel and Cash Ulrich into a stellar young coach and his blue collar work ethic fits into our program well. I look forward to having him continue to build Biola baseball with the current staff."

Sires has been on several winning teams as a result of that coaching experience and his time as a player himself with the Yakima Valley Yaks. The Yaks currently have a streak of winning records in every full season since 2010, thanks in part to Sires' 2015 team that won 15 games at home and the 2019 squad that won 30 games and qualified for the NWAC Championship Tournament with Sires as an assistant coach. 

The newest member of the Eagles staff will reunite with two Yaks alumni, Brayden Hamilton and Brandon Thomas, who signed with Biola Baseball over the past several months. And he brings the glowing endorsement of his work-ethic from former NWAC Champion and NWAC Coach of the Year, Kyle Krustangel:

"Ryan Sires is a relentless worker that pours his heart and soul into the program!" said Krustangel. "I appreciate all that he did here in Yakima and I believe Biola is getting a great coach with a big passion for the game."
 
Sires also played his four years of varsity high school baseball in Yakima and is originally from Union Gap, Washington. He will work with the Eagles outfielders and contribute to recruiting efforts for Biola's baseball program. 
 
"I'm extremely excited to join Coach Calhoon's staff here at Biola. Biola offers me the unique experience of  helping players grow spiritually, mentally, and physically while also growing in my own personal faith and coaching abilities," said Sires. "I can't wait to get on the field and help continue the winning culture that coaches Calhoon, Baker, and Cordy have already instilled here at Biola."
 
The Biola baseball team has returned to campus for workouts and conditioning in advance of the 2021 season. Information on scheduling and the upcoming season will be posted to athletics.biola.edu as soon as it is available.
