LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --- Even in spite of this past season's schedule being cut short, Biola Baseball's successes and prospects for the future continue to create an invigorating buzz around the program. 

That excitement rightly starts with Biola's 12-2 record and its high placement in the final regional and national polls for this past season. And the optimism has continued to build as a great majority of the roster decided to return for next season alongside a growing stable of new additions. 

That buzz surrounding a team with massive playoff potential drew another exciting student-athlete in recent weeks as former 14th-round draft pick and Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Oscar Serratos Jr. committed to join Head Coach Jeff Calhoon's group.

"Oscar is a player with a lot of experience. And he brings a work ethic and mindset of development that fits in our program." said Head Coach Jeff Calhoon. Oscar has had to navigate a difficult time with COVID-19, but we are happy to have him here through the unfortunate situation. I cannot wait to get him with us this fall!"

Serratos spent the shortened 2020 season at Young Harris College, where he started all 18 games in the infield for the Cougars while scoring 12 runs in that span. The transfer led the team in homeruns (3), walks (13) and on-base percentage (.436) while also stealing three bases, thereby upholding a lofty reputation he developed at the NCAA DI level after being drafted with the 432nd pick in 2017 out of Grayson High School.

Georgia Tech gave Serratos 31 starts over 41 appearances during the first season of his collegiate career. And the infielder absolutely validated the trust the Yellow Jackets invested in him by hitting .311 as a freshman with two separate hitting streaks of five games or more. 

He would follow that up with three separate five-game hitting streaks or better while making 34 starts over the 2019 season.

Serratos plans to major in accounting at Biola and build another great case for his draft prospects while making a name for himself in an Eagle uniform. Fittingly, enrolling at the university is a bit of a homecoming because Serratos has connections to nearby Montebello, California. And he will certainly feel at home in a team environment that is determined to turn its buzz into a powerhouse playoff performance in 2021.
