Signing Announcement for Eleni Cabrera

Beginning A Dream Journey

Eleni Cabrera will fulfill her dream of playing college basketball at Biola after working hard on the court and in the classroom.

June 08, 2020

LOS ANGELES --- It took a lot of hard work to get to this poin. But all of Eleni Cabrera's efforts during high school have put her dreams on a solid foundation as she enrolls at Biola University.

Cabrera is a graduate of Junipero Serra High who played three years of varsity basketball while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She is also affiliated with the same California Storm club team as fellow incoming guard Maddy Meadows and possesses a maturity that Head Coach Alan Nakamura holds in high regard:

"Eleni is a valuable addition to our team as we round out our roster from the Class of 2020. She is going to bring enthusiasm, intelligence, and a coachable spirit every day," said Coach Nakamura. "We are building our program with high-character young women who are talented, and bring a humble, giving, team-first mentality, and that description fits Eleni perfectly!"

Cabrera had a very successful tenure with the Serra Cavaliers that culminated in a number of individual successes as a senior. Her team won five games in a row in March 2018 to win the CIF Division I State Championship at the end of Cabrera's sophomore season and finished the year as the No. 14 ranked team in the nation according to Maxpreps.com.

The guard played 31 games that season and followed that up by doubling her scoring average as a junior and earning Second Team All-Del Rey League honors. She also became a team captain during her junior season and helped Serra to another CIF Southern Section playoffs appearance.

Cabrera continued to serve as a team captain during her senior campaign while working up to 11.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and almost two assists per game according to MaxPreps. She was named to the All-Del Rey First Team and to the Daily Breeze All-Area Second Team honors this past March. And her overall positive impact on the program as a player and a second-year captain led to Cabrera's nomination for the 2020 McDonald's All-American Game.

Cabrera will enroll at Biola as a political science major and is also a first-generation college student who is extremely sharp in the classroom, earning honor roll recognition every semester during high school. She hopes to become a lawyer after graduating with her bachelor's degree and is eager to soak in her experience as an Eagle in the meantime.

"I chose Biola because of the strong faith and family values that it represents which will help me grow wiser mentally and spiritually," said Cabrera. "I am thankful to be given the opportunity to play the sport I love at the collegiate level since that has always been a dream of mine and I can't wait to experience this journey with my future teammates and coaching staff!"

Eleni Cabrera joins a Biola women's basketball team that is poised to make a great run at the PacWest tournament for the second-straight season. More information on the incoming 2020-21 class that will join her at Biola can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
