HONG KONG --- Max Woo went to Ojai, California and Weil Tennis Academy to prepare specifically for life as a collegiate tennis player, so finally attaining the goal of his determined preparation makes joining Biola Men's Tennis all the sweeter.  

Woo's academy has an excellent reputation for developing talent at the junior tennis level, contributing to the training of professional players like Grand Slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov and scores of future collegiate student-athletes. And that reputation translated into an elite training environment for Woo; he sharpened his game alongside seven NCAA DI student-athletes who were also part of the Weil College Preparatory Program 2020 graduating class and pushed his UTR well above nine as a result. 

Training at Weil Academy also allowed Woo to approximate a collegiate playing schedule while he found success as several tournaments.

Woo's UTR profile shows that he focused on the singles draw since last July. But he's also mirrored the travel demands his new teammates have had to navigate, trekking all over Southern California while playing week in and week out. Woo played in U18 Level 4 and 5 tournaments in Anaheim, Calabasas, Northridge and Whittier just in the three months leading up to the COVID-19 stoppages and advanced to the semifinal of the most recent tournament he played.

As he joins Head Coach David Goodman's growing program, Woo plans to major in business management and will be one of seven members of his team to center his studies in the Crowell School of Business. He has expressed an interest in studying business at the graduate level and is looking forward to playing winning tennis alongside talented teammates. 

"I believe that I will be able to grow in Biola as a tennis player and more importantly in life," said Woo. "I am really excited to compete with a team like this and I'm looking forward to having a great year together. Let's go Eagles!"
