Signing announcement for Brenden Bell

One-Man Highlight Reel

Biola Baseball will add Brenden Bell in 2020-21 after the outfielder had amazing success in three sports at Liberty High School.

June 24, 2020

BRENTWOOD, Calif. --- With the signing of outfielder Brenden Bell, Biola Baseball adds a young man who possesses God-given athleticism and the maturity to be a good steward of that talent.

By working extremely hard and embracing what his parents and coaches invested in him, Bell developed a strong grasp of his athletic gifts and really let them shine at Liberty High School: he earned first team all-league selections in three sports, helped the Lions to a 2018 CIF 1-A State Championship in football and qualified for CIF North Coast Section competition in wrestling.

Maintaining that level of success across several sports naturally required an impressive amount of discipline from Bell. But it also helped him discern where he wanted his athletic career to go next.

The outfielder's dedication to developing his talents helped him understand that his dreams laid in baseball, and he's excited that his college coaches share a commitment to his growth on and off the field.

"Biola has given me a chance to continue my dream to play baseball and I felt an instant connection with the coaching staff. They seem passionate about the game and committed to doing whatever necessary to get you to the next level," said Bell. "Biola's location, educational reputation and promise of spiritual growth all helped in my decision to become an Eagle."

In addition to his accolades in other sports at Liberty, Bell was a three-time First Team All-Bay Valley selection for the Lions' baseball team and picked up three Offensive Player of the Year honors from the program. According to MaxPreps.com, Bell hit .412 with 10 extra-base hits and 14 RBI's during his first full year on the varsity squad. And he helped Liberty to back-to-back CIF North Coast Section playoff appearances in 2018 and 2019 after the Lions posted winning league records in both campaigns.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, Bell also seamlessly increased his duties on the football team in the transition from the 2018 to 2019 seasons. After recording 61 tackles as a sophomore cornerback for his state championship team, Bell became a two-way player who made 49 tackles and rushed for over 400 yards on a team that went 10-2 the next year. He ran for over 450 yards in four fewer games as a senior and scored 12 total touchdowns as an upperclassman.

Bell ended his athletic career at Liberty with a recognition in the school's Athletic Top Ten for the Class of 2020 and graduated as a California Scholarship Federation and National Honors Society member. He's driven to pursue professional baseball opportunities after his time at Eagles Diamond. But he is also interested in a career in speech-language pathology and will major in communication science & disorders at Biola.

All that adds up to a very impressive resume for the Brentwood, California-native, and the Eagles are certainly grateful to have another man of Bell's caliber and character wearing a Biola uniform in 2021.

"Brenden was a late add for us as we were not expecting him to be available this late in the game. He is a high-level athlete that has had success in every sport he has played," said Head Coach Jeff Calhoon. "He will bring strength and speed to an outfield we look forward to continuing to build around. And he comes from a great club program and a great family that will be a blessing in the larger Biola Baseball family."

Brenden Bell will join his new teammates this August as Biola Baseball prepares to make a run at an NCAA West Regional berth in 2021. More information on the incoming 2020-21 class that will join him at Biola can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
