MARKHAM, Ontario --- Confidence and an aggressive playstyle have carried Ashton Heynes to a winning track record in and around Burlington, Ontario and he is not about to make any changes as he joins Biola Men's Tennis. 

A baseliner who describes himself as high-energy and eager to attack the ball, Heynes posted an impressive list of accomplishments while he was a student at Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy in Canada. He was a two-time York Region Athletic Association doubles champion, won an individual championship at the Bramalea Cup tournament and advanced to the finals of two Ontario Tennis Association Provincial Circuit U18 singles events in 2019. 

As a result of those successes and a quarterfinal appearance in his provincial singles championship, Heynes jumped into the top-100 Canadian national junior rankings for singles last July and pushed his UTR close to 10 before COVID-19 stoppages halted his play this past spring. 

Away from the junior circuit, Heynes leveraged his tennis experience into a brief stint on the FMMC Academy badminton team and earned a third-place singles finish in the YRAA Junior Boys Tier 2 Championships in 2018. He also enjoys playing soccer, winning two intramural championships at his academy, and serving at his church's youth ministry as a co-youth pastor and worship team leader. 

Heynes plans to major in biological sciences at Biola after earning an honor roll award at FMMC Academy and may want to pursue a career in dentistry. In the meantime, he is looking forward to joining a community at Biola that will support his commitment to his faith and his extroverted personality.

"I chose Biola because I'd like to grow in my faith, tennis game and as a student," said Heynes. "I believe that the environment and people will help me to do so and I'm very grateful to be a part of Biola."
