What A Capper!: 
There was a full crowd at Al Barbour field to send off the BUMS 2019 senior class on a chilly November night, and for the first 75 minutes or so, it appeared they would go home disappointed as Point Loma jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Then, the Eagles slowly started mounting pressure on the Sea Lions' back line, forcing multiple corner kick opportunities before seniors Leo Thompson and Hunter Finnegan assisted on a goal by Oscar Rubalcava to bring the deficit down to one. Less than five minutes later, Rubalcava again came up huge with a beautiful through pass to Jack Kilgallon, who struck the ball past the Sea Lions goalkeeper to tie the game and send it to extra time. That set the stage for senior captain Alejandro Pelayo, who got his chance with less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime, converting a header from fellow senior Thompson for a golden goal and ending a very emotional night for the Eagles.o

Postseason Poise: 
2019-20 was perhaps the best season in Biola Swim and Dive history. It saw a pair of program-best finishes at the PCSC Conference meet AND Katelyn Harper made history as the first-ever individual qualifier for the NCAA Division II Championship meet. The season came down to a grueling four-day meet in LA that saw Biola come away with 13 new school records, a pair of podium finishes and a Cornerstone Cup WIN against Azusa Pacific. It was as close as it gets in the battle against APU, with the Eagles needing a win over the Cougars in the final relay of the meet in order to secure a higher place in the meet. It was event 41 of the week, and it took an inspired swim from Kolya Vos, Kasidee Pascoe, Liza Parahnevich & Kellynn Hayes to out-touch the Cougars by three seconds and lift Biola to its first-ever PCSC win over APU. Biola finished with 1,018 points on the women's side to place third, with APU's 1,017 points good enough for fourth. The third-place finish for the men and the women were new program-bests. For the season, this team saw 23 record-breaking swims to end with 16 brand new school records, including 13 set at the PCSC meet. Thanks to Katelyn Harper's work in the 400-IM, the swim & dive season continued AFTER the PCSC meet for the first time in the NCAA Division II era. The sophomore won the 400-IM title at the conference meet and had a time high enough nationally to clinch a trip to Geneva, Ohio to compete at the national championships. While there, she improves six spots from her seeding to finish 18th overall with a 4:27 flat. It was a season for the ages for Biola Swim & Dive, and they're just getting started.
