SOUTHLAKE, Texas --- If there's one thing that's evident from Jake Anderson's time at Grapevine Faith Christian High, it's that he's a young man of integrity who's willing to put in the time to do the right thing and do things right. 

The right-handed pitcher will graduate high school with a scholar diploma that requires completion of several AP classes and advances courses in math and a foreign language. He participated in a Soaring Valor trip to New Orleans that paired him with a World War II veteran for a tour of the National World War II Museum. And he made trips out from Texas on multiple occasions to attend a Biola Baseball Prospect Camp and to ensure the University would match his goals for college.  

Those trips ended up being worth the effort for Anderson and he expressed how elated he was to end up at a school and on a team that were such a great fit for him:'

"My college choice centered around a few key attributes: a Christ-centered education was a must, I wanted to be challenged academically. And I wanted the opportunity to compete at the highest level," said Anderson. "Coach Calhoon is clearly building something special at Biola and Coach Ben Cordy was honest and supportive throughout the recruiting process. The players I met on campus have a team-first attitude, love for the game, and obvious commitment to excellence.

Anderson also racked up some impressive numbers on the diamond at Grapevine Faith Christian and was excellent as the Lions' friday-night starter in 2020 before play was halted. After earning his team's Defensive Player of Year award as a sophomore, Anderson struckout 41 batters in 32 innings of work as a senior while posting a 0.94 WHIP and a .179 batting average against.
 
Over the years, he's also developed his game with the Zero Limits Performance Program and has trained with a staff that worked with 35 professional baseball players in 2019.

"Jake has a great work ethic that will fit in great with how we run our program," said Head Coach Jeff Calhoon. "He is a solid high school arm from Texas who had great numbers prior to having the season cut short. We are excited to add him to a strong staff returning this fall and look forward to seeing his continued development."

During his time in high school, Anderson also earned a 4.1 GPA and went on missions trips to Costa Rica that focused on demonstrating God's love to children through a vacation bible school. He plans to major in business administration at Biola and hopes to own and operate his own business someday.
