LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Freshman Colbeyshae Emery fit a historic season for Biola Women's Tennis into just about half of the Eagles' scheduled matches, but the awards continue to pour in for Biola's No. 1 singles player in 2020. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized Emery as an NCAA DII Women's Singles All-American on Tuesday, making her the first Biola tennis player to be recognized as an All-American. 

The honor was limited to players who won several matches at their ITA Regionals in the fall and who were rated in the top-20 in the country according to the ITA's unpublished rankings. Emery won three matches at Biola's ITA West Regional this past October and went 12-2 in singles during the spring season with multiple victories over regionally ranked opponents.

"I'm so excited for Colbyshae, this is an award that she really deserves," said Head Coach David Goodman. She is an extremely hard worker and has put in more hours on court than any player I've coached. This award is a testament to all her hard work and determination to be the best."

The All-American recognition comes on the heels of high regional rankings in both singles and doubles for Emery. Her 12 singles victories were the most for anyone in Biola Women's Tennis since 2004 and included a 10-match winning streak that is a new program record. Emery was also one of just four representatives from the PacWest to be named an All-American singles player, the others coming from Azusa Pacific and Hawaii Pacific. 

"Even though this season was cut short, it was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I was surrounded by so much love, and support from my team, and I was able to learn from such incredible coaches who helped me on and off the court," said Emery. "Being an All-American is a huge honor and I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way. I am proud to play for Biola, and I can't wait to be back in the Fall to play with my team."

Biola Tennis will now wait on additional awards from the ITA, as Emery was nominated for NCAA DII Women's Rookie of the Year. At the time of writing, Emery was the only All-American player on the ITA's list of Rookie of the Year nominees.
