LA MIRADA, Calif. --- With a 9-1 overall record and a number of quality wins on the ledger already, Biola Baseball earned the attention of the Baseball West Region poll voters this week with its best ranking ever as an NCAA program.

The Eagles were ranked No. 2 in the current West Region poll with 68 points and a first place vote. That total placed them six points ahead of third-ranked Stanislaus State and 37 points ahead of the next-best PacWest team, Concordia University Irvine, which garnered 28 points.

The 7-2 UC San Diego Tritons came out on top of Tuesday's poll with 78 points and six of the eight first place votes. Azusa Pacific and Point Loma were the other two PacWest teams to join the Eagles in the Region's top-10, both earning 19 points to tie for the eighth position in the poll. 

Biola earned its ranking thanks to a strong start against its non-PacWest opponents. The Eagles 9-1 record is tied for the best mark in the region and they have an active five-game winning streak to go along with a quality resume that's bolstered by series sweeps over Cal State Monterey Bay and an UC Colorado Springs. 

In addition to being the best regional ranking the baseball team has ever received, the Eagles' No. 2 position is the best regional ranking any sports program at Biola has achieved since joining the NCAA. 

But in terms of the Eagles' long term goal of earning a spot in the NCAA West Region, the ranking will do little to change the day-to-day pursuit of getting better for the Biola Boys, especially given what the next few weeks hold. The Eagles' poll position may change again simply because the Eagles won't play any games this week. 

Biola will put its focus on preparing for the massive challenge that is its eight-game road trip to Hawaii coming next on the schedule. And if the Eagles maintain the level of discipline they intend to have for the trip, they believe the rankings will continue to take care of themselves going forward.
