SAN DIEGO --- Growing up in a military family has made a major influence on Gracie Guy and the way she wants to approach life. 

She's watched her dad serve in the Navy her entire life and has seen her "super mom" keep the family grounded through deployments and international moves, a role she took on after her own career included seasons in a fire department, in the Navy and in several other public service sectors. The family's strong legacy of faithfulness and firm character instilled diligence and selflessness into Guy and her siblings. And it's been the bedrock of Gracie's success as a high school student and volleyball player.

After spending her middle school years in Rota, Spain and winning a silver medal at a national Spanish volleyball tournament with her Federacion Andalusia team, Guy's family eventually relocated to San Diego and watched her blossom as an athlete. 

Guy was part of a WAVE volleyball club 15U team that won gold at the 2018 Red Rock Rave Junior National Qualifier in the USA division. She's earned two podium finishes, including a gold-medal performance, in the three triathlons she's completed. And Guy garnered a scholarship from the Randy Jones Foundation in 2018 that has supported her volleyball training for the last three years. 

The intersection of Guy's athletic prowess and love of disciplines like training and weightlifting made her a force to be reckoned with when she joined the Westview High girls volleyball team her junior year. The future Biola middle blocker earned first team All-Palomar League recognition, recording 152 kills and 124 blocks in 29 matches while making a big impact for the Wolverines in the first round of the CIF San Diego Section Division I playoffs. Guy recorded an outstanding 17 blocks in that playoff win over Point Loma High School and ultimately accounted for over half of her team's blocks last season with her total of 124. 

"We have been excited for Gracie's signing for a while now, since she was the first out of her class to verbally commit," said assistant coach Gracee Teague. "She has a ton of potential to grow and is such an incredible fit for our program. We knew right away we wanted her in our program just because of her heart and passion for those around her." 

During her time at Westview, Guy has also earned all-academic awards for her work in the classroom and started a Christian club on her campus with the support of her parents. She hopes her time at Biola will prepare her to extend the compassion of Jesus in very tangible ways, as she is majoring in kinesiology to prepare for a career that allows her to serve the physical needs of amputees. 

And Guy is excited that her college experience will enable her to "pursue a high-level education, play great volleyball, and be in a Christ-centered environment all at once."
