LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Head Coach Ryan Kauth's group hosted its first Biola Invitational on Saturday at SPLASH! Aquatic Center. It was a good day for both sides, seeing each team top 1,000 points en route to a second-place men's finish and third-place marking on the women's side.

The men brought in 1,219 total points to finish second only to Concordia Irvine (1,456). The ladies' 1,008.5 points helped them round out a podium featuring CSU East Bay (1,139.5) and Concordia (1,105).

The women beat Azusa Pacific by just over 120 points.

The day began with exciting battles in the 400-medley relay. The women finished second overall with a 4:05.67, but they won their heat by out-touching Concordia Irvine by :00.25. The men's team had a battle with CUI also, which was even closer. After Biola beat the Eagles of Irvine by :00.01 earlier this season, CUI returned the favor in this one, using a 3:34.00 to beat Biola's 3:34.01.

The evening relays saw a win and second-place mark by the Eagles. Kolya Vos, Liza Parahnevich, Kasidee Pascoe and Kellyn Hayes went 3:41.36 to win the women's race. Alex Ness, Tanner Smith, Jonas Huckabay and Patrick Waggoner combined for a 3:11.33 to finish second to CUI.

In between all of that was four hours of successful individual swims. The Eagles were lighting up the scoreboard with heat wins and event wins for much of the day. Biola had 34 top-5 finishes on the afternoon and got event wins from six different swimmers, with two winning multiple times.

Liza Parahnevich was of course one of the ones with multiple wins. She took first in the 100-backstroke (1:00.02) and 500-freestyle (5:10.53) and was a narrow second place in the 100-butterfly.

The other two-time winner was Tanner Smith. Smith helped the men to their strong finish by winning the 200-backstroke (2:00.41) and then returning to place first in the 200-IM (1:59.69) at the end of the day.

The first win of the meet came courtesy Jonas Huckabay in the 200-freestyle (1:58.77). He also had a top-5 finish in the 50-freestyle. Raymond Kam (100-butterfly - :52.53) and Gabe Weber (200-butterfly - 1:59.31) also won individual events for the men. Kam finished second to Weber in that 200-butterfly battle.

Anna Haaksma picked up a win in the 100-breaststroke by going 1:10.03 and keeps her stellar first season rolling right along.

Now Biola will turn its attention to its final regular season meet. The team hosts Concordia Irvine for a head-to-head dual at Lansing Pool next week on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. The meet will be live-streamed at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/biola/.
